01 - What is the purpose of a cut optimizer?

Its purpose is, basically, to minimize the loss of material during the conversion of fixed size plates into smaller sections of varying sizes.
There are millions of ways to cut pieces out of standard size plates. Some patterns waste a considerable amount of material when used with a plate of standardized dimensions, while others could be difficult to carry out for the cutter, thus wasting time.
With cut optimizers, the dimensions of the available plates are provided by the user, along with the desired sizes of the pieces. The program automatically calculates the position on the plate from which each piece will be cut so that as little material as possible is lost.

02 -What are the advantages in using a cut optimizer?

To exemplify how much a flat glass distributor would save, lets consider the production of 1000, (one thousand), 1 m² plates a week, (1000 m² per week).

· Without an optimizer: 80% * of the material is usable. Therefore 1250m² of plates is required for producing 1000 units.

· With an optimizer: 90% or more of the material is taken advantage of, causing a drop in the required area of plates for the production of 1000 units of approximately 1100m².
To calculate how much is saved, just subtract the amount of material necessary in both cases, (in the example, 150m²), and multiply this by the cost per square meter.

Usually the savings pay off, covering what was spent on the cut optimizer in a few months, or even in a few days, depending on the number of pieces cut and on material costs.

* These are only examples, and may vary according to the characteristics and sizes of the material and pieces to be cut.

03 - Is the reduction of material loss and waste the only advantage in using a cut optimizer?

No, it is not. Below are a few others:

• Faster cost predictions, (with the exact number of necessary plates).
•Testing for the best size plate. Plates of different sizes can be tried out, enabling the best choice of a plate to be used from the stock or to be bought for the cut.
• Reduction in errors and an increase in cut speed. The cut maps printed out by the program contain all the information a cutter will need, clearly explained, in order to speed up cutting and reduce the possibility of mistakes.
• Reduction in the number of stored plates. By making better use of plates available in stock, the latter could be reduced along with its costs.
• Document standardization. Standard cut maps reports help avoid interpretation errors, making communication between the people involved in orders easier and saving time.

Currently, cut optimizers carry additional features, such as the printing of labels for the identification of sections, the reutilization of leftover fragments, statistic report print outs, etc.

04 - Are automatic cuts superior to those planned manually?

The advance in cut plan algorithms used in the system allow for the automatic calculation to be superior. This has been proven through the years.

Observation: During its project phase, the Windows version of CORTE CERTO was compared* to various other programs from different countries, (
USA, France, Italy the UK; the countries where most competition come from). In most cases, CORTE CERTO equaled or outperformed other programs.

* The comparison was made using the average performance of each program in handling 20 different random orders, each with different numbers of pieces, (15 to 5000).

05 - What are Corte Certo`s main features?

Optimization:

· Optimization of rectangular cuts. If the nesting of non-rectangular pieces is necessary, the area of a rectangular section where the piece will be contained must be entered.

· Cutting instrument width consideration. The system automatically takes the width of the saw or other cutting instrument into consideration when positioning the pieces/sections to be cut in order to minimize losses. The width of the instrument must be entered in mm.

· Option for quick, complete, or intensive calculation. The quick calculation is used for a general idea of the efficiency to be obtained, thus allowing cost calculations to be made quickly, (in a few seconds). If the order is actually to be carried out, a complete calculation is recommended, in which case calculation time is greater, but losses are smaller, (making the cut more efficient).

· · Simultaneous calculations with plates of different sizes, (mixed plates). The system can be provided with the dimensions of all the plates to be used in the cut and will distribute the sections into them, abiding the quantities available in stock.

· Abiding orientation of pieces and plates whenever necessary. For cutting materials with fibers, such as textured glass, the system abides by the orientation of length and width of sections in accordance with the plate. In case a material does not posses this characteristic, (flat glass, for example), the program will rotate the pieces to reduce loss of material.

·Minimum cut width is programmable. This option avoids leaving behind very small leftover fragments, which may be too small to cut, (in case glass is being used), or might damage the saw or cutting instrument, (in case metal is used).

· Option for selecting all or part of the material in storage for an order. The use of only part of the available plates, according to production needs, can be specified quickly and easily.

· A calculation can be done with one or more orders. All pieces of selected orders using the same material are grouped to reduce losses. When results are presented, the system identifies which piece belongs to which order.

· Each order may use different materials. Corte Certo automatically separates the pieces to be cut from each material, and uses available plates.

Editing:

Editing, (modification), of automatically generated cut maps, including:

- Position of each section/ fragment/ leftover
- Section or piece rotation
- Removal of sections or pieces
- Insertion of pieces
- Piece size altering
- Changeable number of repeated setups
- Cut positions

Printing:

- Preview of order printouts
- Graphic printout of cut maps
- Printouts of statistic reports
- Printing of identification labels for sections and fragments

08 - Is making copies of the program allowed?

Installation of the same copy of the program to be used simultaneously on more than one computer is not allowed. Upon getting Corte Certo, the user is only allowed to make one backup copy. If use on more than one computer by the same client is necessary, additional copies must be purchased, with discounts proportional to the number of copies.
<<<Back

09 – Is the Corte Certo license valid for installation on more than one computer provided they are on a network?

No. Corte Certo is a single-user program and, therefore, each license is valid for use on a single computer. See also 08 – Are copies of the program allowed?
<<<Back

10- Is Corte Certo protected against illegal copying?

Corte Certo is protected against unauthorized copying by an installation password system of its own. Each password is unique and works only on one computer, therefore it does not allow a complete copy of the system that has already been installed to be run on another computer.

Its use on more than one computer will cause the user to have product assistance taken away, whatever the reason for the copy, and legal action will be taken. Each copy comes with a unique code which belongs to a single user, and allows illegal copies to be tracked down. Only a backup copy of the program can be made.
<<<Back

11- How does the anti-copy protection work?

During CORTE CERTO installation, an installation code is shown on the screen and must be sent back to the supplier of the program by FAX or e-mail. After checking client information, a password, which allows completion of the installation process, is provided. The entire installation process is described in the operation guide that comes with the program.

12 - Is the system designed to handle manual cuts or those done by machines?

The cut reports printed out are meant for manual cuts. For cuts which are to be done using CNC machines, ASCII files containing the necessary information for generating CNC machine control programs are provided by the system. This conversion is done by special converters which are not present in the basic version of the Corte Certo program.

13 - How long does the program take to calculate all of the nesting and cutting of the pieces?

Time is dependant on three factors:
1. Amount of pieces/sections of different sizes,
2. Amount of different plates enabled for the cut;
3. Memory and processing capability of the computer being used.

In most cases, calculations take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes to be completed.

14 - Can the purchase of materials be planned using Corte Certo?

Yes it can. The Corte Certo system allows for several basic material optimization uses:

A - Allows exactly all available material in stock to be provided to the system, (whether they be entire plates or fragments, even of different sizes), and sections are distributed on the plates in such a way that there are as few leftover pieces as possible.

B - Experimenting with several plate size options for a given order is possible so that reports about the most appropriate sizes could be generated. This is the best option for a company to save money when buying plates.

The system also allows for both methods to be used simultaneously, in order to, for example, force the utilization of available plates, (which may not be enough for the entire order), while checking what size plate should be bought to complete the order.
